The Story

Yamaha SA-15

  • Good condition
  • Some playwear and a previous professionally repaired headstock crack
  • Guitar looks to be all original
  • Complete with period case

The SuperAxe line debuted with the SA-5, then re-launched in 1967 with 2 more double-cutaway models, SA-30 and SA-50. But sandwiched between was this, the most unique and iconic of all, the single-cutaway SA-15. This was a decade before the lawsuit era, when Japanese brands were still trying to gain a foothold with super low-priced, or super-freaky guitars. Often both

But Yamaha was the exception. As part of a conglomerate with worldwide distribution, the guitar division wanted to take on the big boys with high quality and visionary designs like the futuristic SG solid-bodies, double-cutaway Superaxe models and this, the standout SA-15, with notably Rickenbacker-inspired design elements, including its slim neck, checkerboard binding and cat-eye F-hole.
